YOGYAKARTA - A number of artists Yogyakarta criticize art exhibition ART | JOG | 9 in Yogyakarta, which is sponsored by the mining company PT Freeport Indonesia.
Yogyakarta Solidarity Forum of Peace (FSYD) disappointed and urge the organizers of ART | JOG apologized for cooperation with foreign companies deemed to have hurt the value of human struggle of the Indonesian people and the people of Papua.
FSYD also urged ART | JOG Yogyakarta and the Department of Culture and Creative Economy Indonesia's Agency confirms that the Indonesian art world can still be healthy.
Meanwhile, Yogyakarta and Front Lesbumi Nahdliyin Sovereignty of Natural Resources (FNKSDA) on the website addressed www.daulathijau.org invite to boycott the exhibition which was held on May 27 to the June 27, 2016.
In the website it was mentioned that the presence of Freeport is seen as a form of insensitivity to the people of Indonesia. That's because PT Freeport is considered a wide range of human rights violations (HAM) in Papua.

This appeal is addressed to the artists involved in the mat ART | JOG | 9 as well as all levels of society.
He admitted not all agree with this because some people claim that this exhibition is an ordinary art market and business. So when the organizers in collaboration with companies, it is natural and does not need to be questioned.
"But this is a complex issue I guess. Directions art like this needs to be addressed and criticized," he said.
Lesbumi Yogyakarta and FNKSDA encourage future artists to the art with elegant without dependence or fear of economic resources. Artists can work outside the economic mainstream art.
"It's hopeless, I sure can, a lot of friends who are already doing. We pushed to get there," he said.
Separately, the Artistic Director of ART | JOG | 9 Heri Pemad claimed that since the beginning already know the risks will reap criticism on the cooperation.
"I am very, very appreciative and accepting whatever action artists and activists who disagree. I'm not a baseball familiar with the issue, but it is all based on the background," he said.
According to him, many artists are supportive of knowing how his hard work in order ART | JOG still exist and are known in Indonesia and abroad.
He said that the implementation of Art | JOG last year, the committee should be willing to go bankrupt. Looking for a sponsor does not change as raise funds for the organization of an event. This year, he had tried all possible, but very difficult to find sponsors.
To cover the financial needs of the show, he claimed to be owed to and fro. Often, he had to use his own money for the sake of the implementation of ART | JOG | 9. When there are any sponsors, all of them came near the time of the event, including its main sponsor.
"I understand there will be risks, but this was the final choice. After all, private companies such as Freeport's already well-known to sponsor the event, is not foreign anymore," he said.
He stated that some of the cultural events were also often uses Freeport as a sponsor. He asserted that the presence of Freeport as a sponsor is not related to the creativity of the artists involved.
It must be understood also, ART | JOG has become as a cultural event but nonetheless Art fair that is 100 percent private and commercial.
"Art fair ya anything seen this commercial and private. Private ya got my own," said Heri.
To respond to the contributors, he will give a statement in the near future. It iin done so that these problems do not grow in size and divide the activists and artists.
"We all agree that the company is considered a company that is not in favor of human rights. But if it entered the realm of art fair, which is considered commercial because this is the realm of production," he said.
